A transgender woman has been sent to a men’s prison in an ‘outrageous’ move her mother says will endanger and ‘humiliate’ her.
Make-up artist Tara Hudson, 26, has lived as a woman all her adult life and has gone through six years of gender reconstruction surgery.
But magistrates sent the young woman – who admitted a bar assault – to a male prison because her passport says she is still a male.
Her mother last night said: ‘There’s nothing male about her, nobody would know the difference. She looks like a woman. She’s gorgeous.
‘We think it’s totally outrageous. I don’t think she will cope well at all. I just feel the men are going to go after her. It’s going to be humiliating.’
Mother Jackie Brooklyn said her daughter’s doctor had even confirmed that she is now a woman.

Now this is interesting for a few reasons.
Firstly, if Tara has been living as a woman for so many years, why has she not changed her gender on her passport, wpuld that not be something you would change at the first oppertunity? Has she not travelled all this time?
Also, im interested to know who she was scrapping with? If shes getting prison time its clear she did some serious damage, id be interested to know whether her victim was a male or female.
Now really there are two sides to this, on the one hand you can argue that looking the way she does her safety may be in danger, so its a no brainer to move her to a female prison in the interest of her human rights.
But you can also argue that just because a man is in prison 1, Does not make him a rapist and 2, Does not mean he is gay or interested in sleeping with a transgender man/woman and with the presence of police wardens her safety should be fine.
Personally there is a good argument for both sides, I’m curious what the LGBT and feminist community feel about this, why are they not pushing for unisex prisons in the interest of equality?!
